Onizuka Village was named in tribute to Col Ellison Onizuka, a Hawaii-born astronaut that participated in NASA's Space Shuttle Program who lost his life in the Space Shuttle Challenger tragedy in 1986. The Onizuka Village project has special meaning to Electrical Contractors Hawaii (ECH Corp), and it was the U.S. Air Force's first privatized housing program that featured all LEED Silver Certified homes on a US Air Force base.

Homes in Onizuka Village, located at Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu, Hawaii are about 20 to 40 percent larger than existing homes on base and were part of the U.S. Air Force’s first privatized housing program, featuring all LEED Silver Certified homes on an Air Force base. Proud to be a part of another military electrical project, ECH acted as the subcontractor on this new housing project. This project has helped make homes in the Onizuka Village some of the most energy efficient the U.S. Air Force has to offer.
